Oasis **

In a word: underwhelming. Coming from New York, where even the avaerage corner falafel dive was good, we ratcheted down our expectations. Their pitas were dry (and we suspected store-bought, not home made) and the babaganouj was blanded and tasteless. The saving grace was the service (although Sofia cried at the sight of our waiter - was it the mustache?).

Panda Garden (Saturday Buffet) ****

If you come here on the weekdays for lunch, you'll be greeted at the buffet by a slew of familiar dishes: sweet & sour pork, broccoli beef & the like. Don't. Save your appetite for Saturdays when they break out all the authentic (and unfamiliar) selections like tripe salad, spicy beef tendon & stir-fried bean sprouts. Don't worry about being overwhelmed by the "weird" stuff, there's always Western-palette pleasers like ginger string beans, spicy peel & eat shrimp & black bean fish. It's a terrific way to try all kinds of new stuff without having to commit to a big plate of anything. And it's different every week, so come early (starts @ noon) & come often. Portion control, well, that'll be your problem.
